June 2016 - Back to 3 'poos

We had to make a very difficult decision in the last couple of weeks and this is all still very raw. Toby was returned to his breeder on Sunday.

Basically, he had a very high guarding instinct, and was becoming more and more aggressive towards my dogs, and especially the Komondors. He couldn't cope with being a member of the pack, he wanted to be in charge of them all, and they were having none of it. Unfortunately Toby never backed down, and I honestly thought Buddy was going to kill him a few weeks ago. Toby wouldn't let any of the other dogs near me - especially Max... He didn't cope well with Sookie's season, and it was only when he was away from the household (in a local kennels, so he could get away from Sookie in season), that we were able to take a step back and could see what a problem he had become. The whole house were on edge when he was here - he couldn't cope with the amount of noise, the constant coming and going of people, and was never able to settle down and relax. He barked at everything, growled at the other dogs, and got into a few nasty scraps with Max and even Indie.

It was not an easy decision, and my heart is broken, but after long chats with Jim, and Toby's breeder, we decided that Toby would be happier in a house with less going on, and less things to guard.. James will keep him at his for assessment for as long as needed before he finds him the perfect new home. On his own, Toby is meek and cuddly and a total poppet, with my other dogs he was aggressive, dominant and not very nice at all.  I feel like a total failure and am so very upset that it has to come to this. Toby was brought in to be a stud dog, but Max and Polly hated him and there was no way I would use him for breeding as his personality was not right at all, and I will never breed puppies for the sake of it.

Despite all his faults, I loved him to bits and will miss him every day, of course the children are devastated.

I'm sorry I let you down Toby xxx
